Nuorilang Waterfall China

Saturday 27 July 2013

Nuorilang Waterfall, located in Shuzheng Valley, is the widest waterfall in Jiuzhaigou and so it occupies a central position in the area. Indeed, it is often regarded as the symbol of the scenic area and it is cited as one of the six most beautiful waterfalls in China. Nuorilang Waterfall is over 300 meters wide and spans a ridge, which is 20 meters high with a smooth top floor. Legend has it that there was no waterfall, but only a terrace long, long ago. One year, a famous Buddhist monk named Jarmoda brought the Palm Leaves sutras, a ploughshare and hand reeling machine with him when he came back from travel in a faraway land. The bright and beautiful Tibetan girl Royi understood how to use the hand reeling machine quickly. She put the reel on the terrace and taught the girls passing by to use the reel and thus the terrace was called “spinning platform”. However, the fierce and cruel leader Luozha thought that the girl was doing something wicked so he kicked Royi and her reeling machine off the cliff. Immediately the mountain spring broke apart and swept away Luozha and his henchman into the cliff. The “spinning platform” became the waterfall that we can see today.
